Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya

The National Youth Choir of Catalonia (CJNC) is an initiative of the Catalan Choral Movement (Catalan Choral Confederation) and Young Choirs of Catalonia with the complicity of the Catalan Association of Teachers of Singing and the support of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat of Catalonia.

It was born to offer an opportunity to the best talents of the country under the direction of reputed national and international conductors and aims to be a tool of state in the style of the national young hearts of most European countries. It also aims to be an ambassador of Catalan choral excellence beyond our borders.

The extensive choral network of Catalonia, with more than 1,000 hearts and more than 30,000 singers, is the best endorsement for this project.

The Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya is made up of 24 singers between the ages of 18 and 28, selected annually after a nationwide audition process, which is renewed every year to offer equal opportunities to new emerging talents.

The CJNC has a single summer meeting so as not to interfere with the ordinary activity of the choirs and closes with the celebration of several concerts throughout the Catalan territory. For a week, the young people live together and work on repertoire and vocal technique, with the help of the conductors and vocal instructors.

The artistic direction is always in charge of two directors of the highest prestige, one Catalan and one international. An artistic couple that changes every year to offer the singers different proposals of the highest quality.

The CJNC was created with the objective of:

To provide us with a pedagogical and artistic instrument of excellence that is at the same time a symbolic and cultural element of the first order like that of other countries.
To offer the opportunity to the best talents of the country to work under the direction of recognized national and international conductors.
To stimulate and give prestige to the choral practice among young people.
To promote the recovery of the Catalan choral repertoire.
To promote the internationalization of our repertoire and conductors.
